Seminar for identifying gaps in the project "Integrated Risk Management Plan for Varna Region"
On November 21, 2019 a seminar was held at the National Palace of Culture - Sofia Convention Center EAD - Branch Varna (former Festival Complex) to identify the gaps in the organization, equipment and readiness of the key institutions to deal with the worst case scenarios that could happen in reality. Floods, earthquakes with a chemical contamination and maritime accident with a ship liner were discussed and assessed. The presumption of occurrence at the moment had to determine the need for prepared human resources and available equipment, including the expected coordinating actions between all institutions responsible for rescuing people and reducing the damages at regional and national level.
The seminar was attended by Commissioner Totev - Director of the Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Protection of the Population, Joro Georgiev - Head of Department in Varna Municipality, Dr. Maya Rasheva, Director of CSMS - Varna; representatives from the Medical University, University of Economics and Municipalities.
The results of the seminar will be set out in the forthcoming Gap Analysis, a document which, together with the results of the consultation, in-depth interviews and benchmarking of good European practices in Marseille and Suffolk, will provide the basis for the development of an investment programme and capacity building, inseparable parts of the new Integrated Disaster Risk Management Plan for Varna Region.
