ABERON launches a new project under the LIFE-2022-CET programme "Empowering local authorities to accelerate the clean energy transition" – LOCAL GoGREEN
The European Commission underlines the urgent need to support Europe's small and remote communities in their efforts to achieve the EU's mid-term 2030 decarbonisation targets, including aligning financial incentives with the clean energy transition, supporting knowledge sharing and capacity building.
LOCAL GoGREEN assists local authorities in accelerating their clean energy transition. The project will use an innovative bottom-up approach to build the capacity of local authorities in pilot municipalities in Slovenia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy and Spain for integrated climate and energy planning. The sharing of guidelines and good practices will improve the interaction between the public and different stakeholders from the 6 pilot municipalities in the implementation of integrated measures at local level.
Through a coherent roadmap, each pilot will select 3 projects from 5 main priority areas (sustainable transport and e-mobility, energy efficiency of buildings, expansion of renewable energy production, land use planning for increased carbon absorption and waste-to-energy) for a feasibility study and follow-up funding.
A transnational expert group will advise local working groups on technical, financial, social and environmental aspects of the transition. This will facilitate the search for investments for the implementation of large-scale projects provided by the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF), national and international financial institutions. The results of the project will be multiplied through the creation of clusters, the availability of a multilingual training platform and the established Transnational Municipal Cooperation Network.
